A Japanese House with a Steep Roof

With it’s steep pitched roof this house is probably the most unusual Japanese house I’ve featured on this blog. Designed by Japanese architecture firm, On Design, the home has a slender, lean design.

The house appears to be taller than usual due to the elongated roof which starts at the top of the first floor. The steep pitch roof seems at odds with the various windows, creating a sense of the whimsical.

The interior mimics the exterior, with tall slanted walls featuring custom storage cabinets and shelving. The house seems to be finished in a minimalist fashion with the occasional wood cabinetry giving the home a sense of warmth.
